The crazy ramblings of a middle aged woman who is slowly going out of her mind.

I left the work force in '99 to stay home and care for my disabled husband. Being essentially retired at such a young age has brought about several emotional changes and I have found the peace so many seek. Should anyone read my post perhaps they too can find a little peace of mind.

Letter to step-son

Dear ,
Just so you know, I may be posting this letter on my blog. Might as well update everyone. So I hear you got a truck. Good for you. I haven’t had a car since August and it seems I don’t need one. At least I am saving on insurance, gas, and tags. I have it down to where I only have to go to town one day a month, and when you are only pestering people for a ride once a month, they don’t seem to mind too much. Mostly it’s been your grandparents, but occasionally the neighbor lady takes me. I just hate to ask her because she stays busy with her own family and animals.
Your dad is doing pretty good, haven’t gotten the written report on his blood work yet but they called and said everything was OK. He still can’t get around but his mind is getting sharper.
We have a puppy and chickens. Humphrey got down in Jan. and we almost put him down but he is much better. The puppy showed up in Dec., her name is Katherine Hepburn “Katie”, and the latest batch of chicks hatched Mar. 2nd., 7 of them. There were two hens sitting when the ice storm hit and one came off hers and teamed up with the other so now both hens are raising the chicks. They have this tag team thing going. We are quickly getting too many chickens, but they are small and cute. There is a hen sitting now, she just started yesterday and I will have to give her an aspirin to break the fever. They are wanting to sit so bad they are sitting on only a couple of eggs. when these newest one grow up some I plan on calling swap shop and see if I can move them on out. Katie is a hoot. She is half chow and half German Sheppard but looks like a Sheppard that has a tail curling over it’s back and tongue blacker than Humps.
The yard is starting to bloom out but I only planted a couple of new things. This year the excitement will be to see what shows up. Katie has had a great time digging in the yard. She pulled up several plants and I finally reached a point where I would plant them in different places than where she found them. Time will tell. I transplanted some bamboo from across the street and planted just outside the fence between here and the “yard”. hopefully it will block the north wind from the trailer and the porch.
Jay should be home before long. He went before the Post Prison Transfer Board in Jan. and his case was found “with merit” for executive clemency. Now we are just waiting for the Governor to sign the necessary papers. He is coming home because he may have less than a year to live. Once he gets home ha may get better. Look at your Dad, who could have guessed he would still be here and actually doing better. One thing I have learned through out this … your mental attitude is more important than any other thing in your life; and laughter really is the best medicine.
And speaking of attitudes, how is yours? It should be good, you have a lot to feel good about. You have come a long way kid so hang in there, don’t screw it up now. And as you have learned it can screw up REAL quick.
Guess I need to go and get this in the mail, I need to go down and drop off the water bill. Keep in touch.

New Chicks

We have new baby chicks. There were two hens sitting when the ice storm came and one left her nest and teamed up with the other and by golly they hatched out seven yesterday. While they were sitting other hens stopped in and laid also so there are 14 leftover eggs. One hen is still sitting on eggs while one is on chicks and then they switch off. They sure have it going on. I moved them from the nest boxes which are open to a cage with security. Those chicks are just too cute and so small; but then the eggs are only slightly bigger than a marble. Katie is still chasing Roscoe the rooster but not as bad. Hopefully she will grow out of this but, I doubt it.
